4 tips to improve your your Time Management

by Jon on December 10, 2011 · 1 comment

I was recently running a workshop on time management. Time Management is that ever present, insoluble, problem. Insoluble that is, until you define it properly!

We had a great morning and one of the challenges the group liked the most was my four D challenge.

Your 4D challenge to improve “Time Management”.

Whenever you come across a task there are only 4 things you should consider, all begin with D:

  1. Do it: Do it now
  2. Date it: Admit it will have it’s place, in the future. Date it and forget it until then
  3. Delegate it: It’s not your role, or you shouldn’t be tackling it. Somebody in your team is better placed, or needs developing (yes another D) and should do it (Click here for 3 tips on delegation)
  4. Dump it: Be bold, admit it - this isn’t going to happen, stop wasting mental processing energy on it. This is the one that many business owners, and staff struggle with. Does it solve something now or is is strategically important, if not dump it (then ensure it’s really fnished with, click here to read “bayoneting the dead”)

What will it take for you to improve your “Time Management”? I’d love to read your comments.
